Bronco Invitational is final tuneup for women’s volleyball before conference play begins
September 12, 2013
Sacramento State (5-3) will begin play in the Bronco Volleyball Classic in Boise, Idaho Friday at 9 a.m.
The tournament is the team’s final tuneup before conference play begins.
Head coach Ruben Volta and his players view the tournament as an opportunity to fix any of the team’s mechanical issues.
“Certainly we need to pass better and just improve on all parts of our game throughout the year,” Volta said. “It’s just another opportunity to do that this weekend.”
The Co-captain, senior setter Hannah Hettinga , discussed improvements she hoped to see in this tournament.
“We’re definitely going to work on our fight,” Hettinga said. “We fought at the end of the Davis match, but there’s a lot more in us that we haven’t shown yet.”
The other co-captain, senior setter Chelcy Motes, weighed in on the team’s focus for this weekend.
“Defense has always been a huge part of Sac State volleyball and we’re just looking to make sure we maintain that,” Motes said.
As his team prepares for this weekend, Volta is excited about the challenges the tournament presents.
“I think it’s going to be a good opportunity for us to get ready for conference because I feel like it’s going to be a lot of teams that play a similar style to teams in our conference, and there will be some unique challenges within that,” Volta said.
The Hornets will start the tournament with a double header against North Texas and Idaho. Sac State will finish Saturday against tournament host Boise State.
