Men’s soccer falls to UC Davis 1-0

Sacramento State’s men’s soccer team lost to arch rival UC Davis 1-0 Sunday afternoon in Davis.
The Hornets had few chances to score in the first half and were unable to get a shot in the first 45 minutes.
Sac State improved in the second half, getting 15 shots, 10 more than Davis, but was unable to score. The Hornets were given opportunities to get a goal when two Davis players, John Joslin and Riley Newport, received red cards at 56:43 and 80:56, respectively. Another red card was given to a member on UC Davis’s bench at 65:00.
The one goal of the match came from Joslin minutes before he was forced to leave the game.
Five Hornets players posted a total of 15 shots, and the two shots by freshman forward Max Alverez were the only ones on goal. Both junior mid fielder Fernando Cabadas and junior mid fielder Ernesto Caranza had three shots each. UC Davis goalie Ryan McCowan kept Sac State scoreless in 90 minutes.
The Hornets next game is against San Jose State on Oct. 8, one of the two times Sac State will play The Spartans this season. Thursday’s match will be the last road game before Sac State begins Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference play against Air Force Academy Oct. 16.
