You don’t have to do it. You may not want to do it. But the slightest sight of it could help your fashion sense.

We’re talking about accessorizing your wardrobe for spring.

On some unpredictable sunny days, you may have caught a glimpse of this season’s accessories. While some people are having trouble getting their sunny-fashion groove back, Sacramento’s trendiest are here for the rescue.

Erin Fulton, president of Sacramento State’s Student Fashion Association, said that layering necklaces or bracelets is big this season.

But Karina Patel, a senior family and consumer sciences major, warned that layering too much is not a part of the trend. If you layer one way, don’t layer another way, “It just looks tacky,” Patel said.

Fulton also said that rings with huge stones are in this season. Wearing multiple rings is even better.

Fulton advises sticking to the classics in accessories, like chains, pearls and stud earrings.

“Definitely stick to items that you can wear for years to come,” Fulton said.

Synn Inc. Clothing CEO Brian Morrison can help in the department of headwear.

Morrison described Synn Clothing as rock ‘n’ roll Hollywood chic. And though the designs are in the realm of rock ‘n’ roll, the style really depends on how people add accessories to their outfits.

He said in a phone interview that classic styles of hats, such as fedoras from the late 1880s to the early 1890s, are reappearing and making a comeback.

“It’s kind of going back to the old-school gangster look,” Morrison said.

He also said the military style baseball hats are in this season and that Synn Inc. has one coming out in its next line, launching in March.

Bandanas have always been huge, Morrison said. But this spring, people are doing more to standard bandanas, such as using different prints that make wearing it look cool.

Hats or caps with a lot of patterns or prints, which arose from the street wear scene, are crossing into this season’s trend and becoming more popular among everyone, Morrison said.

“It’s way rock ‘n’ roll style,” he said.

For men, leather bracelets are still fine to wear, but they are being driven out by silver and gold jewelry, Morrison said.

Sunglasses are almost necessary when the sun is shining and are also a hit with Synn Clothing. Morrison said that the aviator or oversize sunglasses is an ongoing trend for their line and is also picking up in trendier stores.

But the fashionistas and fashionistos agree that style is individualized.

“Everyone has their own personal style and it’s hard to knock someone’s style,” Morrison said.

He said as long as you’re looking and feeling good, then you are on the right fashion track.

You can find Sacramento-based rock ‘n’ roll wear by Synn Inc. Clothing at Grind and Groove boutique on K Street between 22nd and 23rd streets. Fulton’s accessories can be seen in the Student Fashion Association fashion show at Sac State in May.
