Two-tenths of a point was all it took to keep the Sacramento State women’s gymnastics team out of the regional meet. However, four athletes did manage to qualify on their own leaving the team behind. The four women represented the Hornets well with two placing in the top 20 in the region.

Nirvana Zaher tied for seventh place on the balance beam with a score of 9.875. Zaher was not too far away from the first place finisher from Oregon State’s Ricioli Hebro who finished with a score of 9.950.

Oklahoma won the team title with a score of 197.100. Alabama trailed with a score of 196.900, both teams earned a seed at the NCAA national championship. Oregon State hosted the meet finishing in third with a score of 196.85.

“We are very proud to have four girls qualify in such a strong region here on the west coast. We had great individual performances who were details away from a top finish,” coach Kim Hughes said.

Stephanie Aeder finished in 16th place on the floor with a score of 9.825. This was Aeder’s first regional meet and lost to top finisher Ashley Miles from University of Alabama who scored 9.950.

Binta Coleman scored a 9.725 on the floor and vault. She ended up placing an overall 19th after a score of 9.600 on bars and a 9.225 on the beam.

Melanie Greer placed 25th on the bars after a solid performance with a rough landing.

“She went from maybe a top 10 finish, to dropping down to 25th with one little mistake,” Hughes said.
