Mediterranean restaurant coming to Riverfront Center

Not only is Sacramento State regarded as one of the most diverse of the California State University campuses, it is also known to offer students a variety of dining services to satisfy the cultural needs of all. Already offering Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, Mexican, French and American food, a new restaurant, Mego, will add to the variety that the campus brings.
If construction goes according to plan, students, staff and faculty of Sac State should expect the grand opening of Mego to be on the first of March.
Located in the Patio Cafe of the Riverfront Center and adjacent to Togo’s, Mego will serve Mediterranean and Middle Eastern foods.
Sac State’s Dining Services provides dining options on both the north and south ends of campus, according to its website.
“Dining Services is excited to add another dining option to the campus, increasing variety of food available on campus. This will have a positive impact on the campus, increasing the ability to the meet the needs of the customers,” said Stephanie Ewing, spokesperson and registered dietitian of Dining Services.
Unlike other eateries on campus, Mego is self-supported by the owners of the restaurant, and all construction has been self-invested, Ewing said.
In comparison to Sac State, CSU, Long Beach did not offer students a variety of foods, as senior literature major Meagan Sevier recalled upon her experiences at both universities.
“When I went to Long Beach State, all they served was basic food. There was nothing really special or different about the food,” she said.
While some people feel the new restaurant might affect other businesses on campus, Dining Services believes Mego to be another contribution of an ethnic background that students will enjoy.
“Mego will be wonderful addition to the campus and will definitely increase customer satisfaction. Mego will add another dining outlet with healthy options to meet the needs of the health conscious customer and also those who just want great food,” Ewing said.
