Big Sky honors Katie McCoy
January 7, 2007
Sacramento State women’s soccer forward Katie McCoy was named the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week for her performance last weekend on the road. The junior forward scored a goal and assisted on two others in a 6-0 thrashing of Idaho on Friday.
The goal was McCoy’s second on the season and her two assists gave her the team lead with three. McCoy led the Hornets in 2005 with seven goals and six assists.
So far this season the Hornets have improved in terms of putting the ball in the net. Last season it took the team 12 games to score its first nine goals while this year it has taken them only six games to achieve the same feat.
McCoy was named the player of the week last October as well after guiding the Hornets to four consecutive wins during a crucial stretch that helped them make the Big Sky Tournament.
Next up for the Hornets (3-2) is San Jose State (1-3-1) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The team returns home on Friday for a game against NAIA opponent Menlo at 3 p.m.
