If you’re looking for a place versatile enough to hang out with your friends or eat lunch with colleagues, then Crepeville downtown will offer you just that.
On the corner of L and 18th, Crepeville offers a casual atmosphere conducive to good conversation with friends over hot drinks or making the acquaintance of a French crepe.
The atmosphere of Crepeville is both bright and inviting. Vibrant and colorful paintings adorn the orange walls inside the restaurant and within a minute of entering Crepeville, you know it’s a place you could stay for hours.
The architecture inside looks almost industrial, with copper tables and large slabs of metal throughout the building. The space appears somewhat cold, yet upon entering its interior is both warm and welcoming.
The seating is self serve. Orders are placed at the front of the restaurant and the food is brought to you when it’s ready.
The menu at Crepeville is extensive. There are a variety of crepes to chose from such as the Greek Delight Crepe with cheddar cheese, artichoke hearts, black olives, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions and feta cheese for $7.25 and the California crepe with avocado, sun-dried tomato pesto, spinach, provolone, onion and a side of sour cream for $6.95.
We ordered the Chicken Pesto Crepe for $7.75 and were quite pleased.
A great restaurant for vegetarians, Crepeville also offers a Tofu crepe with baby corn, bell peppers, tomato, onion and spinach sauteed in peanut sauce for $7.25.
Customers also have the option of creating their own crepe with various ingredients with anything from grilled eggplant to curry to spinach sauteed in peanut sauce. The price starts at $4.50 for cheddar and onion and each additional add-in is $0.80.
Even if you aren’t in the mood for the famous French dish, Crepeville offers numerous other options like omelets, sandwiches, salads, bagels and pasta dishes. The prawn fettuccini is a recommended dish for $9.25.
At the counter, customers will find other items that may appeal to their appetites such as banana nut bread, vegan cookies, and the famous carbonated Italian water, Pellegrino.
If you’re in the mood for a hot drink, Crepeville has an espresso bar that serves whatever type of mocha, latte, or cappuccino you want. Flavored Torani syrups line the back wall, to add them to your drink or possibly crepe for only $0.30 per shot.
Don’t forget to save room for the best part of the meal, the dessert crepes. The dessert section features crepes such as the Raspberry Blintz with ricotta cheese, raspberry jam and topped with applesauce and sour cream for $5.25 and the Apple Crepe is also popular with fresh apples, brown sugar and cinnamon for $4.95.
An interesting blend of apple and cheddar cheese also adorns the menu. This sweet and salty variation includes fresh apple, cheddar cheese, cinnamon, brown sugar and sour cream for $5.25.
We chose the absolutely delicious banana, nutella, and peanut butter crepe. Nutella is a hazelnut and chocolate spread that is extremely popular in parts of Europe. This particular crepe drenches Nutella and Peanut Better over sliced bananas and whipped cream. A mint leaf sits on the side of the plate to remind you that you are eating gourmet.
The major downside of Crepeville is that it does not accept credit cards. However, an ATM machine sits in the back of the restaurant where, for $1.50, you can get money to pay for your meal.
Crepeville is a great place for a nice, casual meal out on the town and friendly enough for your college budget.
Pick a seat near the window and watch as people walk and drive down L St. towards the Capital. There’s nothing quite like eating a good meal while watching the city unfold.
