The definition of diverse is “a point or respect in which things differ.” To achieve the perception of it is a difficult task for any established musician, especially on a limited pallet, such as when recording an album.

The Arizona quintet Fivespeed has achieved such an accomplishment with a eclectic collection of sound and significance with their alternative-rock album, “Morning over Midnight.”

Recorded on the Virgin Records label, the album blends the heavy grinds of guitarists Jessee Lacross and Brad Cole with prevailing and potent vocals of lead singer Jared Woosley.

The sophomore record by Fivespeed inspires a sound resonating that of the Foo Fighters and Ten Years. The tone of the album’s first track, “Fair Trade,” sets the bar for the rest of the album with its hasty, up-tempo rhythm and catchy chorus.

From there, the album ensues with a stop and go tempo and takes several unexpected twists of blatant metal inspirations, then turns with the emotional stirred tracks “Blame it on You,” and “Touch of One.”

The album fully presents its diversity as it concludes at the polar opposite of where it began with the deep acoustic track, “Misery Loves Company.”

However, the real treat on “Morning over Midnight” is the power of Woosley who seemingly stretches his vocals with every verse and lyric. Similar to the long and high pitched howl of Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington, Woosley vocals are clearly dominant on every track and exude the authenticity of a live performance.
