10 days after she sank the game winning shot in overtime against UC Irvine, junior guard Cindy Alldrin helped end 2004 for Sacramento State women’s basketball with a 46-39 win over New Mexico State Friday afternoon at the Hornet’s Nest.

Despite being held scoreless in the first half, Alldrin erupted for 13 points on 4-of-11 shooting, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. She also grabbed six rebounds and had five assists. On the season, the first-year transfer is second on the team in scoring, averaging 8.6 points.

The Hornets were careless with the ball in the first half surrendering 15 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes. The Hornets also only stole the ball four times in the first half, while giving up nine steals to the Aggies.

“I thought we were very impatient,” head coach Dan Muscatell said. “Because we were inpatient, it seemed like we were throwing the ball all over the gym.

“It seemed that once we settled in and were willing to take the shot clock down to zero, if we needed to, then we got good looks.”

Despite their sloppiness the Hornets entered the locker room at halftime down only five, with the score 24-19.

Sophomore guard Kim Sheehy lead the team with eights points at the half on the strength of two 3-pointers. Junior forward Ashley Cadotte and freshman guard Ali Mollet each contributed four points. Cadotte also grabbed nine rebounds.

Sheehy, who had been averaging only 6.6 points per game, finished the game with 11 points and 3 rebounds.

“I’ve just been getting into the gym a lot more and shooting,” Sheehy said. “It’s been really helping.”

For New Mexcio State, freshman forward Sherell Neal led the team in both points and rebounds with 12 in both category.

In the second stanza, the Hornets came out hot, scoring nine of the half’s first 11 points. However, the contest stayed close throughout the second half, with the score being tied twice and the lead changing hands twice.

Alldrin put the Hornets ahead for good with nine minutes to go in the game with a trey that made the score 35-34. From there, Sac State pulled away from the Aggies, with Alldrin clinching the victory with one last 3-pointer with four minutes to go.
