ASI director resigns
September 28, 2004
Director of Undeclared, Carly Grassinger, has quit the office, leaving Associated Students Inc. to fill another vacancy this semester.
Grassinger’s schedule conflicts with work, classes and ASI meetings were keeping her from attending Wednesday meetings and fulfilling all her duties as an officer, according to a letter she wrote Sept. 8 to ASI Executive Vice President Angel Barajas.
“She didn’t have the time for it,” said Kelly Hudnall, the director of arts and letters.
When the members of last year’s yellow slate were disqualified from their elected positions over the summer, Grassinger accepted a full-time job offer.
“We had to go on with our lives,” said Hudnall, who had also accepted a full-time job while the yellow slate was out of office this summer.
Grassinger and Hudnall didn’t know if they would be able to re-enter into their positions in ASI and decided to focus their time on work. The two shared the responsibilities of one full-time position before all the officer changes in ASI occurred.
With the one job becoming two separate full-time jobs, Hudnall said that Grassinger has been pressed for time.
The women work at Gregory-Holden Corporate Services, a law firm in Sacramento. Hudnall said the job Grassinger performs demands time-sensitive tasks like making visits to the Secretary of State’s office.
Grassinger’s resignation came as a shock to some ASI officers.
“I was kind of surprised,” ASI President Josh Wood said. “She seemed like she was interested in participating on the board. She had a lot of great ideas.”Grassinger was unable to be reached for comment at press time.
