Advanced directing students show off
May 3, 2004
The final two one-acts from the students of the advanced directing class premiere this Wednesday, collaborating to make an enjoyable evening of free theatre. The first of the two student-directed one acts is “Ancient History” by David Ives and directed by Katie Old, a junior theatre major. Old describes it as “a story of why love isn’t always enough,” but this isn’t a tear-jerking drama. It is in fact a comedy, in true Ives style, and as the characters describe it is a “screwball tragedy.” In it, a woman relives a time with the love of her life before her world comes crashing down. After a brief intermission is “The Inspector Hound” by Tom Stoppard, which is directed by senior theatre major Ernesto Bustos. The farce follows two theatre critics who are attending a play, and with their ranting and raving create juxtaposition with the play with the actual play. The play is filled with over-the-top characters and plenty of physical comedy. Both shows are free of charge, and begin at 5 pm in the Studio Theater Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week.
