Campus police investigate vandalism
February 14, 2001
The vandalism that occurred in January, causing approximately $8,000 worth of damage to a piece of Facilities Management equipment remains under investigation by campus police.
Sand was poured into the oil tank and over the engine of a large Toro Groundmaster riding lawn mower. The vandalism was reported Jan. 29 to campus police, although they believe the incident occurred on the Facilities Management grounds between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27.
“I don?t know why someone would want to vandalize a piece of equipment that beautifies the campus,” said John Hamrick, public information officer for Campus Police.
Facilities Management was the victim of at least one additional act of vandalism during the last year, according to the incident report filed with campus police. However, Hamrick said his office pulled a year?s worth of police records and could find no other related incidents that had been reported.
“We experience vandalism throughout the course of the year,” said Mario Ruiz, director of plant services.
