Hmong Family’s journey portrayed
November 28, 2000
Pictures of a California State student’s family journey from a refugee camp in Thailand to Sacramento during the close of the Vietnam War will be on exhibit in the University Archive in the library on Nov. 30.
“‘A Hmong Family Album: Pictures of a Journey’ is an account of student Pheng Vang’s family journey that offers a unique perspective often not told of Southeast Asia migration to the United States,” said Pam Macas of University Archives. “Visitors will be able to see personal artifacts from the journey and gain a sense of the hardships that the families faced.”
This story of survival and courage will include a showing of a documentary film on the Hmong immigration to America. An open discussion and sharing of personal stories will follow the film. There will also be refreshments, music and poetry.
This program, which is part of Sacramento State’s Year of Unity celebration, is free. The exhibit will be on display from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call University Archives at (916) 278-6144.
