One of the most popular and seemingly provocative shows on television today will be visiting Sacramento State on Friday, Oct. 27 in the University Union Ballroom at 8 p.m.

“Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher” has chosen Sacramento State as one of its few campus shows that it will be holding this year on the West Coast. It will be a special, expanded, campus-oriented version entitled, “Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher Live on Campus.”

Sacramento State has done similar events like this before, but this is the first time with “Politically Incorrect.”

“Sacramento State is trying to bring more events with people of national prominence to campus, that are also topical at the time,” Bill Olmsted, University Union program director said.

“Politically Incorrect” has been called the “Best Talk Show on Television” by TV Guide, and has been the winner of four Cable Ace Awards for Best Entertainment Host and Best Talk Show Host as well as being nominated for nine Emmy Awards.

The show will start off with a 15-20 minute comedy routine by stand-up comic, Bill Maher. The format for the show places Maher in the center of a controversial discussion being held between four panelists. Maher provides heated debates for the panelists that will be directed towards the upcoming political election for their campus tour.

“[Who will be the four panelists?] Now that’s the million dollar question,” Olmsted said. The panel has been revealed as actor/comedian, Guy Torry, who has played in such movies shows as, “American History X,” and”The 70s.” Torry also starred in the film “Life” with Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawerence.

The other nationally prominent figure is Christine O’Donnel, president of “The Savior’s Alliance for Lifting the Truth.” One of the local participants on the panel is Dan Elliot, the anchor from KXTV-10 “News 10 Good Morning” and “News 10 Midday.” The fourth panelist will be one of the students attending Sacramento State, who has yet to be announced.

Although the show, “Politically Incorrect” is aired weekly on ABC, this version of the show will not make a debut on the station. However, local media may be covering it on their news releases. The show may also be caught on local college television stations, campus dorms and other campus venues.

“Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher Live on Campus” is one of the many events that are presented by University Unique Programs at CSUS. Tickets are available for the public for $12 and for students for $8 through the CSUS Central Ticket Office and Tickets.com. For more information, call (916) 278-6997.
