Sacramento State joins local art galleries for exhibit
October 15, 2000
For the first time in Sacramento State history, the School of the Arts and art galleries from around the area have collaborated to display the talent of local artists.
One exhibit in particular, “An Introduction to CSUS Artists,” opened on Oct. 5 and is featuring the abstract works of art professor Linda Day, plus pieces from established artists Julia Couzens and Joan Moment, and photographer Kent Lacin. The goal of the collaboration is to integrate Sacramento State art programs with more of the Sacramento public.
“We are dedicated to bringing our talent and understanding of the arts to more of the community,” Rollin Potter, director of the School of the Arts said.
On Saturday, Nov. 11, a special Sac State chamber music and local jazz ensemble will perform at the gallery from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. to help commemorate the exhibit.
At the present time, Potter is looking into setting up more exhibits with a wider selection of art galleries. In the near future there may be more of these kind of events.
Potter is also working to see if students artists can be displayed, but this won?t be occurring for awhile, he said.
The exhibit will continue until Nov. 11 at The Michael Himovitz Gallery , located at 1616 Del Paso Blvd. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and from noon to 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
“Invite friends . . . it will make an enjoyable evening,” Potter said.
