First symphony performance Tuesday

CSUS Symphony Orchestra will present its first solo performance of the semester on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. in Capistrano Hall.
Under the direction of Leo Eylar, the 60-piece orchestra will be feature “Roman Carnival Overture” by Hector Berlioz and Robert Schumann?s 4th Symphony.
Leo Eylar has been a prominent figure in the music scene since the early 1980s. Along with being a professor and conductor at Sacramento State, Eylar is also the music director for the California Youth Symphony.
Student guest conductor, P.J. Angove, will conduct a piece by Igor Stravinsky entitled, “Firebird Suite.” Angove is a conducting student of Eylar?s in the graduate program this year at Sacramento State.
Sacramento State has held many symphonies before, usually with a large turn out. “About one-third of the audience are students, but the rest is the general public with no particular age range,” Shea Grimm, information clerk for the music department said.
The symphonies usually last for about two hours. The CSUS Symphony Orchestra will also perform on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
When looking for a parking space to attend the event, it is advised to use the student side of the Parking Garage adjacent to the Music Building.
Tickets are available for $6 for public admission and $4 for student and senior admission.
