Ten years ago, at the age of 12, Shashank became a child prodigy in music. His creative flute playing at major music festivals has become well-known throughout India and abroad. Soon, Shashank will be performing on campus.

By encompassing the best of North Indian and South Indian classical styles, Shashank has developed a concert pattern of his own.

Critics world-wide have described his flute playing as creative and melodious. They also find his work to be conforming to the traditional vocal style of high quality.

Now 22 years old, Shashank has released several recordings and has performed around the world in prestigious concert halls. He holds a star performer status, but prefers to call himself an Indian classical flutist.

Shashank will share his remarkable musical talents with the accompaniment of four other people. B.U. Ganesh Prasad will be on violin, N. Ramakrishnan on a two-headed barrel-shaped drum, called a mridangam, S. Karthick on the ghatam, which is an earthen pot hand drum, and A.A. Hemalatha (Shashank?s mother) on tambura.

Sponsored by the CSUS Music Department and the World Music Club, the concert will be held in the Music Recital Hall on Sat., Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.
