BREAKING: Victim of apartment stabbing from Wednesday has been identified as Sac State student
The victim sustained “non-life threatening but serious” injuries

The victim involved in the Wednesday evening stabbing was a Sac State student, according to Sacramento State Public Information Officer Anita Fitzhugh. The suspect has been identified and arrested, according to Sac Police.
Jarvis Russell, 52, got into an altercation with his roommate, a Sac State student, around 5 p.m at the Academy65 Apartments.
Russell stabbed the victim, who received “non-life threatening but serious injuries,” according to police.
Police said Russell, fled the scene and was later located around 7:45 p.m. near the 16th and W Street intersection. Russell was arrested by Sac PD on charges of felony assault against his roommate, police said. He was booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail and is being held in custody.
Sacramento police said they are investigating a stabbing that occurred near Folsom Boulevard and 65th Street.
Around 5 p.m., officers responded to Academy 65– a privately owned housing complex near Sac State– after receiving reports of a person being stabbed, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers located the victim– who sustained “non-life threatening but serious,” according to an email sent to residents from building general manager Mari Enriquez.
In the email, Enriquez said police cleared the building and confirmed that the suspect was not on-site following the altercation, adding that the suspect’s key fob to the building was deactivated to “avoid re-entry.”
Increased security presence is patrolling the building, Enriquez said.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, according to authorities. The investigation remains active.
