Sac State wins behind strong pitching and hitting performance

Sacramento State’s pitching and hitting were showcased in a win against Fresno State Wednesday in Fresno, Calif.
Freshman starting pitcher Sam Long earned the win, throwing five innings, giving up one earned run while striking out three . It was Long’s first career start as a Hornet.
Sac State batters also were on point tonight scoring six runs, the highest run total this season for the Hornets. The 1-6 batters in the lineup went 7-25 with four RBIs and five runs scored.
Junior first baseman Rhys Hoskins has struggled at the plate this season but he wound up going 2-5 with one RBI. Hoskins was named the No.68 college prospect before the season began.
The Hornet relief pitchers, who have been the strength of this team, had another strong outing throwing four innings giving up just two runs. Junior pitcher Alex Palsha has settled into the setup role nicely going two innings striking out three. Palsha has thrown six scoreless innings on the season.
Sophomore closer Sutter McLoughlin earned his third save of the season pitching a scoreless ninth.
Fresno State was led by designated hitter Taylor Ward who went 2-4 with 3 RBIs and one homerun. Fresno State is now 3-2 on the season.
Sac State (3-2) will travel to play Texas A&M University for a weekend series starting Friday at 4:35 p.m. in College Station, Texas.
