Women’s tennis sweeps Idaho State and Weber State

The Sacramento State women’s tennis team defeated both the Idaho State Bengals and Weber State Wildcats on Sunday.
The Hornets opened the day at 9 a.m. sweeping doubles play against the Bengals. Sophomore Tatsiana Kapshai was perfect on the day defeating Lisel Lewis 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Rebeca Delgado beat Sophie Dang 6-0, 6-1.
“I try to be ready and mentally prepared so that every single match is important so you have to give 100 percent on the court,” Delgado said. “Doesn’t matter who the opponent is tough or easy, I try to always stay focused and I don’t give the opponent a chance.”
Freshman Zalina Nazarova went 6-1, 6-0 to beat Rachel Ryan and Sophomore Maria Melluk finished 6-1, 6-1.
“When I warm up I look for the opponents weak spots,” Nazarova said.
Hornet, junior Milica Zivanovic, defeated Amy Betts 6-0, 6-2. The matches ended with freshman Gayane Sarkisan 6-0, 6-1 victory over Risa Fujiwara to wrap up the day with a 7-0 victory for the Hornets.
“My strategy is to feel comfortable for each match,” Sarkisan said. “Just to play my game and be positive on the court.”
Sac State wrapped up the second match of the day sweeping the Weber State Wildcats. In the three doubles matches, Sac State won all the contests. In singles play, Kapsai completed her day with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Elsje Beneke. The day finished with the Hornets winning the rest of the matches in straight sets.
The Sac State Hornets finish the remainder of their season on Monday, as they host Montana at 2:30 p.m.
