Weber State routs Sac State football 49-10
October 20, 2009
Tim Toone’s dominance of Sacramento State continued on Saturday.
Weber State University defeated the Hornets, 49-10, behind a tremendous performance by the Wildcat wide receiver.
Toone caught eight passes for 154 yards and three touchdown receptions. He also returned a punt 95 yards for a touchdown – a Big Sky Conference record.
“I had a good game because everyone is helping me out,” Toone said.
In Toone’s previous two games against Sac State, he recorded 12 receptions for 274 yards and five touchdowns.
“He’s a playmaker,” said Weber State Head Coach Ron McBride said. “That’s what it’s all about.”
Toone also went over 3,000 yards receiving in his career, becoming the first Wildcat to do so and the seventh player in Big Sky history.
After getting down 21-0, the Hornets went on a 13-play, 80-yard drive, which ended in a 12-yard touchdown pass to tight end Brian Heath on fourth down.
However, any momentum the Hornets had built after that drive was quickly taken back by Weber St. A 48-yard kickoff return set up a 30-yard touchdown pass from Cameron Higgins to Mike Phillips.
Higgins finished with 290 yards and five touchdown passes in the victory.
Jason Smith finished the day with 137 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He was replaced by McLeod Bethel-Thompson in the third quarter.
Running back Terrance Dailey nearly had his third consecutive 100-yard-plus rushing performance, finishing with 96 yards on 22 carries.
Weber State improves to 4-3 overall and 4-1 in the Big Sky. Sac State falls to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
The Hornets host the No. 3 Montana Grizzlies on Saturday at 2:05 p.m at Hornet Stadium.
