Sacramento State Hornets’ outside hitter Desiree Hoyum was named Big Sky Conference Co-Player of the Week along with middle hitter Jaimie Thibeault of Montana.
With a combined 41 total points between the two matches this weekend, Hoyum helped keep the Hornets in playoff contention as both wins came against conference foes.
On Friday against Idaho State who had entered the night as the fourth-seeded team in the conference, Hoyum recorded team highs with 18 kills and 19 digs in leading the Hornets to a 3-game sweep of the Bengals. Hoyum, who committed just five errors on 40 attacks, finished the evening with a .325 hitting percentage.
Visiting Weber State on the following night, Hoyum was at her best once again leading the Hornets to victory over the Wildcats, three games to one. With 13 digs and a match-best 22 kills, The Destroyer finished the week with a 5.71 kills per set average to go along with 4.57 digs per set.
The double-double was the second for Hoyum in back-to-back nights and increased her conference leading total to 13.
The win moved Sacramento State into sole possession of fifth in the conference behind fourth place Montana who comes into town Saturday night, Oct 17th.
Hoyum, who has been having an exceptional season, added to her totals over the weekend and has now recorded 20 or more kills seven times this year. She currently ranks second in the Big Sky Conference in kills, third in points, fifth in digs, and ninth in aces.
