Women’s gymnastics post first season victory

The Sacramento State women’s gymnastics team obtained its first victory of the season with a win against Utah State Friday night in Utah.
The Hornets earned 192.575 while the Aggies of Utah tallied only 191.050. The victory put Sac State at 1-1 on the season and 1-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.
The Hornets are the two-time WAC champions. The Hornets have also made it to the postseason for the last two years.
The Hornets started the meet on the bars but, started to trail the Aggies as they prevailed on the vault with a score of 48.425 to best the Hornets’ 48.150.
Junior Marina Borisova led the team with a victory in the all-around and senior Melissa Genovese placed first on the beam.
The floor exercise, which is a strong point for the Hornets, was a strong point for Borisova’s night as well. With a score of 9.825 she finished second overall.
The Hornets next meet will take place at home on Friday against San Jose State. The meet starts at 7 p.m. in the Hornets Nest.
