Women’s golf wraps up play for fall semester
November 9, 2007
The Sacramento State Hornet women’s golf team finished its last fall event Tuesday in the middle of the pack with a ninth place showing among the 18-team Lamkin Cup/Cal Poly Invitational in Arroyo Grande, California.
The team shot successive total scores of 319 on Monday and Tuesday, finishing with a total score of 638, 40 strokes behind the first place UC Riverside squad’s score of 598.
The Hornets were lead by sophomore Brooke Green with her two-round score of 157. Seniors Kim Coppin and Erica Yoshino with scores of 158 and 159, respectively, followed her. Green’s score was good enough for a tie for 28th place and was highlighted by her first round score of 77.
The top individual honors went to Jennifer Bermingham of UC Riverside, who shot a first round of 68, followed by a second round of 74. The score of 142 was good enough to win the invitational by three strokes, as Bermingham was able to outlast a pair of golfers from Northern Arizona University and another from Santa Clara University. The three finished in a tie for second with a score of 145 each.
The women’s golf team will be out of play for the remainder of the fall semester and will resume with its 2007-08 schedule in late February of next year with the Fresno State Innovational in Fresno, California.
