Jonny Lives releases ‘Get Steady’
March 13, 2007
New York City Indie rock band Jonny Lives introduces its album “Get Steady,” which will be released today.
Jonny Lives is made up of a four-member crew that is flavorful with sounds of today’s new urban British rock. Vocalist Jonny Dubowsky is a Chicago native and has the vocals of a street kid playing at a local bar with his garage band.
The band’s style is representative of popular bands such as The Killers, The Strokes and The Bravery. The black-suited, white-tied band came up with 14 tracks that are catchy, easy to sing along with and all sound different. The beginning tracks such as “No Good,” “Get Steady” and “Breaking Down” are symbolic of the present radio Indie Rock sound.
Later in the CD, the music almost has a folk feel to it, much like the sound of music playing in the corner of a Starbucks. The ending tracks, like “Miraculous Sky,” have a softer melodic sound, which is beginning to become more popular in today’s music scene.
Classy yet grudge like, the band created music appealing to the local crowd in Sacramento. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear this band playing at British rock night at Old Ironsides. The lyrics make the band romantically savvy yet dirty with lyrics such as in “Get Steady,” which say, “I’m a jet setter?I think that I can make it, but Lord knows I won’t fake it.” Then later in the song saying, “I am not good by myself.”
The band was discovered and signed by Allen Kovac, founder and CEO of the record label Eleven Seven Music. Jonny Lives became known in the Indie scene by playing with bands such as Everclear, which is also signed by Eleven Seven Music.
Bands such as Buckcherry and Everclear, along with Jonny Lives, are all on the soundtrack of “National Lampoon’s Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj.” Jonny Lives is featured on the first track with the musical hit “Get Steady.”
With today’s musical sounds like The Shins bringing back musical styles from the late 1970s, Jonny Lives fits the mold of what it means to be contemporary in the Indie music scene. The facade of the band is like looking at a fresh version of The Beatles sporting converse shoes and vintage vests. The music matches its appearance and gives a punk rock kick to the Indie music of today.
The band is made up of drummer Jon Weber, bassist Tommy USA, guitarist/vocalist Christian Langdon and vocalist/guitarist Jonny Dubowsky.
