It’s all about the ear bling

Sometimes all an outfit needs is the perfect accessories to make it all come together. Girls, you know what I’m talking about.
What are ears for anyway? Yeah I know it’s for hearing, but if that dangly piece of cartilage doesn’t really serve any purpose, might as well make it useful. That’s where earrings come in.
The latest trend this season has been the popular use of earrings to help decorate and add some pizzazz to one’s look. Accessories to a perfect outfit are just as important as frosting is to a cake. It completes the package, tops it off, seals the deal. You get the point.
So with the ever changing styles of fashion, it’s no wonder that this season girls have been sporting an array of designs, colors, and sizes of earrings on campus.
I got the chance to ask Cyrita Pacheco, a sales associate for Claire’s in Arden Fair Mall, what exactly is “in” for this season.
“Right now, the hot look is bohemian,” Pacheco said. “It’s all about beads and a lot of things that dangle.”
Claire’s has a whole wall of these hot earring picks and has them available in every single color because this year “colored jewels are really hot.”
Pacheco also noted that vibrant colors such as yellows, pinks, reds, and turquoises are very popular. Even neon colors are making a comeback.
“So it’s not only about bling-bling but its different colors that you can get it in,” Pacheco said.
Hoop earrings of all shapes and sizes can be found on most Sac State girls’ ears. When asked, public relations major Chauncey Corbin had no problem admitting he notices when a girl wears a nice pair.
“For the most part, certain ones catch my eye,” Corbin said.
So which ones catch his eye exactly? “I like hoop earrings and the ones that dangle,” Corbin said. “Generally if I know the girl, then I look.”
Hoops aren’t the only earrings that seem to not fade from the fashion scene.
“Pearls are always in fashion, they never go out, it’s a classic look,” Pacheco said.
The iridescence of pearls is really popular too as well as a mix and match of different textures. Seed beads can be mixed with round beads or teardrops to make the gypsy look.
“It’s kind of like a bohemian / ‘I’m a gypsy’ look,” Pacheco said.
Earrings can not only compliment an outfit, but it can do the same for your face shape.
Once the outfit is picked and the accessories are thought out, what’s next?
“All the jewels in the hair are really big,” Pacheco said. “The little clips where you twist your hair and put a little clip in it. They started decorating them like flowers and adding rhinestones and crystals in them.”
Ah, the hair. I’d elaborate, but let’s leave that to another time.
Whatever earrings you decide on, don’t be afraid to try something new and just have fun with it!
