Halloween is the time of year when adults can dress up, outside of the bedroom, as anything they want and not feel like idiots.
With so many options for partying hard, sexy, fun costumes just seem like the right thing to do. Then comes the question of what to dress up as.
Halloween is the time when it’s acceptable for girls to dress provocatively and it’s cute for guys to dress as that nerdy superhero they idolize. Ladies are great at making any costume sexy, like “sexy little red riding hood” or “sexy angel.”
Guys on the other hand, tend to be a more low key when it comes to costumes. Most throw on a mask and black clothes and call it a day, while the occasional fun fella will get creative with it.
There’s a ton of options available to every college student who wants to really make a statement this year.
Evangeline’s Costume Mansion on 111 K St. is known as Halloween headquarters. Upon stepping foot in the Old Sacramento store, it’s very apparent why it is the best place to shop for a costume.
With every possible costume and accessory imaginable, Evangeline’s attempts to create a department-store-style feel.
“We sell costumes more like a clothing store, rather than out of a bag,” manager Deborah Chausse said. “We encourage our customers to try the clothes on, and we really make a point to have everything here, like with our accessories.”
According to playthings.com, Spiderman is the most popular costumes for boys this year. College men should take that idea and run with it by getting a group of your bros and dressing as a gang of superheros. You can find many superhero costumes at Evangalines, including Spiderman, Batman and Superman.
Other popular sellers this year are pirates, hippies and 1920s inspired zuit suits and flappers.
You can also get witty and creative with your costume, like dressing in yellow and white, wearing devil’s horns and a red tail, and calling yourself a “deviled egg.”
Cheap Thrills, located on 21st Street, offers a 10 percent discount to Sacramento State students.
“They have tons of fun stuff there,” recent graduate Rachel Holmes said. “I got a great green wig there, to complete my go-go dancer costume!”
If you have a significant other, a great idea is to go as a couple, which can be anything from Barbie and Ken to a hot dog and a bun.
Having a group of friends go together within a theme, like cowboys and cowgirls, or T-Birds and Pink Ladies is always fun and makes it easy to find your group at the end of the night, as well.
There is a plethora of costume options out there, just have a look around. Putting time into a creative costume is important, because not only can you be the talk of the town with your inventive threads, but those leather chaps and southern drawl may cause a Halloween hottie to “yee holla” your way.
