The silence of the bands

Allyson and Kevin Seconds are about to find out if there is any truth in the old adage “love conquers all” ? true love that is.
The couple?s business, True Love Coffeehouse, has been the ideal establishment for both music and coffee lovers since it opened in February 2001. But after losing its lease, True Love is scheduled to close at the end of August.
The Secondses are hoping to re-open True Love at a new, bigger location in midtown Sacramento by summer 2005.
“We?re definitely not going to disappear,” Kevin Seconds said. “We?re going to come back and be bigger and better than ever.”
Located just miles from Sacramento State at 2406 J. St., True Love has been a favorite for patrons because of its wide variety of live music, drinks and intimate setting.
“It?s artsy, it?s warm, it?s inviting and it?s not another cookie-cutter Starbucks,” said three-year customer Sandra Giarde. “In the time I?ve come here, it has really fostered a sense of community for artists, musicians and people who like music.”
“I cried when I first found out [about it closing],” Giarde said. “For some of us it?s almost like our second home. For that to be lost, it?s a real loss not just for us, but Sacramento as a whole.”
Sacramento resident Cary Rodda, who has visited True Love three to four times a week since its opening, echoed Giarde?s sentiments.
“Kevin and Allyson have worked hard to make this a really cool place to go,” Rodda said. “A lot of people come here and just feel comfortable. You don?t find that in too many places around town. It?s a great venue for music and to hang out with your friends.”
Kevin Seconds said that he and Allyson have been blessed to have so many people get behind True Love and support it.
“We found a niche that works and it?s been what we?ve always envisioned,” he said. “We always imaged a place that had a little less of a corporate feeling. We wanted a homey place where people would come and feel comfortable.”
True Love?s official closing date is scheduled for Aug. 28. Its final live musical performance will be held Aug. 15.
