When does fan intensity cross the line?

The Causeway Classic is one of the top collegiate rivalries in Northern California. To nobody’s surprise, the fans at Saturday’s game did nothing to discredit that status.
In a game that was as hotly contested as the action down on the field, the fans of Sacramento State and UC Davis engaged in a battle that was more reminiscent of the Civil War rather than a football game.
My advice, if you plan to attend the Causeway Classic next year, wear a helmet. Better yet, just where a full-fledged football uniform.
For starters, as soon as I entered Hughes Stadium, wearing my Sac State sweater of course, I was bombarded by several Sac State students who had just been thrown out of the stadium.
The reason they had been thrown out of the stadium was because they were throwing beer bottles at UC Davis fans. Right, I know what you’re thinking.
You’re thinking that perhaps the Sac State fans ran into some UC Davis fan at the concession stand, and they had a little altercation. Wrong!
