Sacramento State?s Recreation and Leisure Studies department will be hosting the First Annual Sawtooth Film Fest today. The event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. in Hinde Auditorium of the University Union. The film fest will feature some of the most adrenaline charged and daring sports films of the year.

Like their counterparts, the Sundance Film Festival, the Sawtooth Film Fest features some of the best work that young independent film makers have to offer.

This year Sac State?s RLS department has worked diligently to bring the film fest to Hinde Auditorium in hopes of enlightening and fascinating viewers. The RLS department plans to use the money raised by the film fest to offer more recreation activities to students campus wide.

The Sawtooth Film Fest originated three years ago in Sawtooth, Idaho. Each year since its inception, the Sawtooth Film Fest has become more and more recognized for its outstanding collection of independent films.

The featured material is a compilation of short adrenaline and adventure films. Each film was produced by a different production unit, which gives the overall product a sense of diversity.

For example, the first film is called 1st B.A.S.E. by Moving Adventures, which is a biography of a base jumper. The film follows the BASE jumper around the world and provides interviews and backstage access.

The next film is called Still Twitchin? by Video Link, and chronicles kayakers in British Columbia, Southeast Asia, and the USA.

Next is Beyond Gravity by Black and White Productions, and features some of North America?s finest rock climbers. The film also reveals many of the mysteries of rock climbing.

The most jaw dropping performance comes courtesy of the film Gandwana, produced by pro surfer Pancho Sullivan. Watching the one legged surfer hang 10 is going to blow your mind.

There are more adrenaline filled films featured during the Sawtooth Film Fest that will be guaranteed to have you on the edge of your seat.
