Student Organization sells flowers to wipe out tetanus
February 4, 2014
In its second Valentine Flower sale, Circle K International, a student-run organization that specializes in community service, is looking to raise money to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus in third world countries.
With every $1.80 raised, an average of three vaccines are made and distributed to families in the third world countries.
There are two other groups that are affiliated with CKI, Kiwanis International, a group that is more about adults who have graduated college, while the Key Club is a group in high schools throughout United States.
The group started making the origami flowers last semester. Kiwanis’ chairperson, sophomore Seng Khang said the process of making the origami paper flowers was long.
“It took us a while because the folding of the paper in the particular shape was very time consuming,” Khang said.
Even with a group of 40 active members, the process of making the flowers took close to three months.
CKI is offering special rates for flowers with chocolate kisses on the top with a card attached to the side, those flowers cost $2 a piece. The normal flowers, without the chocolate, cost $1 each.
The CKI group is selling their origami from a table on Serna Plaza.
