Spicy buffalo cauliflowers for a healthy vegan appetizer
May 16, 2013
These vegan cauliflower buffalo wings are fashioned to taste like the traditional buffalo wings often enjoyed during summer barbecues.
Although vegan, these cauliflower buffalo wings are just as spicy as the chicken buffalo wings, but their hot flavor can be enjoyed by both omnivores and carnivores.
Using cauliflower as a replacement for meat is a good way to cut back on calories, but in the true spirit of buffalo wings, this recipe creates cauliflower buffalo wings that are just as finger licking good and easy to eat.
Once marinated in hot sauce and baked, the cauliflower deceptively resembles chicken wings, which makes this recipe a fun way to surprise meat lovers with a delicious dish that is vegan.
Spicy Cauliflower Buffalo Wings
Servings: 6
1 cup of water
¾ flour
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 head of cauliflower
1 tablespoon oil
1 tablespoon hot sauce
Preheat the oven to 450 F.
Begin by mixing the water, flour and garlic powder in a bowl until thoroughly combined.
Set the bowl aside and make sure you have a baking sheet covered in aluminum foil to set the cauliflower buffalo wings on.
Coat the cauliflower pieces with the flour mixture in the bowl and place the coated pieces on your baking sheet.
After coating all the cauliflower pieces, place the sheet in the oven and bake for about 15 minutes.
As the cauliflower is baking you can begin preparing the buffalo sauce by adding the olive oil and hot sauce together in a separate bowl. This mixture will be poured over the cauliflower after they are finished baking. The cauliflower is ready to be coated in sauce after the flour has thickened and the pieces look as if they are breaded.
Once the cauliflower is done baking, remove from the oven and pour the sauce mixture over them. When the cauliflower pieces are lightly browned and thickly coated in sauce, they are ready to continue baking for another four minutes.
These cauliflower buffalo wings are simple to make and great for keeping the guests at your next party or barbecue licking their fingers.
After one bite into these spicy and chewy textured cauliflower buffalo wings, you’re bound to leave both the vegans and meat lovers at your party smiling and satisfied.
