Skateboarder collides with pedestrian
May 6, 2008
Police and paramedics were called to campus this afternoon to attend to a collision between a skateboarder and a pedestrian.
Nick Lumenta, 22, was riding his longboard near the Academic Information Resource Center at around 4:20 p.m.
As he came down the incline near the University Union, Lumenta swerved to avoid a woman pulling a wheeled backpack.
He then collided with William Eoff, who attempted to brace for the impact.
“He was flying,” Eoff said.
The two bumped heads and both sustained lacerations above the eye. Police and paramedics arrived shortly after the crash.
Eoff and Lumenta received medical attention at the scene. Both were offered a ride to the hospital but declined to take the ambulance.
Lumenta, who has been riding longboards since he was 11, said he had never been involved in an accident.
Officers who responded to the accident said that in their experience, skateboard-related accidents of this kind are rare on campus.
