Alcohol involved in fatal car crash
April 25, 2008
Alcohol played a part in a fatal car crash involving a Sacramento State student, Sacramento Police Department disclosed on Wednesday.
Blood analysis showed that Kirsten Ross, 20, had a blood alcohol content of .06 percent at the time of the crash.
Though the legal limit for drivers over the age of 21 is .08 percent, anything above .05 percent is considered driving under the influence for drivers between the ages 18 and 21.
Investigators will cite driving under the influence as a key cause of the crash, Sacramento police Sgt. Matt Young said.
“It’s unfortunate,” Young said. “If anything good can come, it’s to think before you get behind the wheel.”
Ross’ 2004 Honda Accord collided with a fire truck responding to a house fire call on April 12 in downtown Sacramento at the intersection of Ninth and L streets.
Nancy Concepcion Gonzalez, Ross’ passenger, died at the scene of the crash. Ross sustained critical injuries and passed away two days later.
