Hornets sweep Manhattan in second match of Invite
September 18, 2007
It was a 3-0 sweep for the Hornets as they picked up their first win of the Sacramento State Invitational (30-25, 30-18, 30-15) today.
It was first home victory for the Hornets this season.
Senior outside hitter Missie Stidham dominated the scoreboards throughout the game leading the Hornets with 15 digs in three matches.
Although the setting was not picture perfect throughout the match, senior Lindsay Haupt still had 13 kills and Stidham put up 11.
Freshman libero, Chelsea Goodsell kept the Hornets defense strong with 14 digs for the match.
Stidham continued to serve well throughout the match. Each game she had at least two service aces. With seven service aces for the match, Stidham tied the school record for aces during a three game match.
“I’ve never really set a record for anything before so it’s cool to do that in my first year here,” said Stidham.
Sophomore Melissa Melcher played solid defense and had 16 kill assists. In the third match, Melcher’s nine-point service run gave the Hornets the final score of 30-15.
Freshman Chara DeLoney played her first minutes of Hornet volleyball during game three of the match and played excellent defense.
Senior middle hitter Michelle Franz rested this match with nagging shin splints. The Hornets will take on Cal State Northridge at 7:30 tonight in Yosemite Hall.
