Mediocre epic a bit short of the ‘line’
November 26, 2003
Interestingly enough, for all the women out there, Paul Walker(2Fast 2Furious) was still pretty hot in this movie.
But guys, don’t worry, there’s still plenty of action andsuspense to keep you glued to the screen.
Based on Michael Crichton’s “Timeline”, Walker plays ChrisJohnston, the son of Professor Edward Johnston (Billy Connelly),who is at a dig with student archeologists at a medieval site inFrance.
When Professor Johnston suddenly disappears when he is lookingfor answers from the International Technology Corporation (ITC),it’s up to a few student archeologists and his son, to save him. They go to the ITC who funds the dig to get the answers.
But before they know it, they get transported back in time tothe 14th century.
Now, they are living the past and only have a few hours to findthe professor and leave before they get stuck in the medievaltimes, at a time where the French and the English are at war.
On top of that, there are two romances woven into the movie. Theone between Chris and Kate (Frances O’Connor) and Andre Marek(Gerard Butler) and Claire (Anna Friel).
It was a good movie, except the Chris and Kate romance was justa little boring.
Other than that, the fighting sequences were great. Mostlybecause of the costumes, but it really looked like they were in thepast, in part because of the buildings that they had built.
There was not a lot of use of computer graphics. What was seenwas what they had on set.
Fans of the book, beware, Richard Donner (director) and thewriters tried to stay as close as possible to the book, but withover 500 pages, it’s hard not to change a few parts andcharacters.
This suspense-thriller is great when you’re looking for a littlemystery, a little suspense and a little bloodshed and swordfighting. Not to mention Paul Walker.
