You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not poutI’m telling you why, the human elf is coming to town.

Much different from the vulgar comedies movie goers are used toseeing, Will Ferrell’s role in the movie Elf showedhis versatility and his ability to perform comically for families.It’s a movie definitely put together for those viewers whoare young at heart.

The movie is a tale about an orphan who was adopted by an olderelf (Bob Newhart). He grows up accustom to using things that wouldnormally be five times larger in the human world, but as he getsolder, Buddy discovers that there’s something unique abouthimself. After finding out that he was adopted, he goes on a searchto find his biological father (James Caan), who unfortunately, ison the naughty list. While searching for his human identity, he isalso trying to remind a community of Scrooge-like people what theChristmas spirit is all about.

Not only is this a comical film, but it’s a tale of lovebetween Buddy and Jovie, played by Zooey Deschanel. However,it’s not just romantic love that develops in the film, butalso a story of a broken family coming together and learning how tolove again.

The movie is hilarious with unexpected spurts of comedy fromBuddy. If you think that Ferrell has been filled with energy inother movies, then this one probably tops them all with hisimprovised comedy.

David Berenbaum wrote an excellent screenplay. It’sdifferent than other comical movies like Miracle on34th Street and the Santa Claus in that thosefilms give explanations for why Santa exists and why people shouldbelieve in him. Elf on the other hand, gives reasons tobelieve that elves are real, and shows that there is a wholeother community that helps in the north pole which is the elfishworld. It’s a tale that shows that people shouldn’tbelieve in just Santa, but in elves too, after all, they are theone’s that create the toys we get under the tree on Christmasday.

It was an overall exciting film to watch. Jon Favreau made somereally good choices in directing the film. The scenes wereaffective in that, even though people like Newhart and Ferrellaren’t that much bigger than one another, the crew did areally good job with the sets considering that Will Ferrell – astall is he is already – looked like a giant compared to the othercharacters in the film.

If you want to take the family out for a day of fun, then go seethis movie. It will be something for all the kiddies to enjoy. WillFerrell was extremely creative once again in his acting abilities.He just took the script and rolled with it. The movie is definitelysomething to take the family too and see. Enjoy!
