Bike stolen in Peak Adventures break-in
May 1, 2001
A window was broken and a bicycle valued at $500 was stolen from the Peak Adventures Bike Shop during the late hours of Monday night last week.
Entry to the shop was gained at the east side of the building and a hammer and a single footprint were left at the scene.
An employee opening The Store in the University Union Tuesday morning noticed the broken window and called Campus Police. Police officials then notified Jael Barnoske, director of Peak Adventures.
“From our investigation, the break-in occurred between the hours of 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 23 and 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 24,” said John Hamrick, public information officer for Campus Police.
According to Barnoske, the bike was the only thing taken because it was the one thing the person could reach from the outside through the window.
“It looks like the person used a hammer that was left at the scene, and it was the University Union workers that found the hammer and footprint that were near the broken window,” Barnoske said.
The case is still under investigation and there are no suspects yet. The hammer and footprint are physical evidence and there is pending development of a suspect, according to Hamrick.
“I really can?t say how long it will take to produce a suspect, but the case will stay open. We appreciate any information,” Hamrick said.
Any individuals who have information on the case are encouraged to contact the Campus Police at 278-6851.
