October 10, 2000
After struggling in the first game, the Hornets came back to beat Idaho State in three straight games on Saturday night in Pocatello, Idaho, earning their fifth victory in the last six games. The Hornets? offense was strong against the Bengals, as they won (5-15, 15-6, 15-6, 15-7).
Junior Tasman Dwyer had a match high of 20 kills, sophomore Jayme Wright added 18, junior Esther Rogers had 11, and senior Sarah Chlebana added 9 kills and 23 digs.
The Hornets struggled in game one but they shook it off, and surged back to win the remaining three games with ease.
Sac State head coach Debby Colberg was happy to see her team play well away from Hornet Gym.
“We wanted to transfer the feeling of improvement at home to on the road,” head coach Debby Colberg said. “Once we controlled the ball, we realized that they couldn?t handle us.”
The win in Pocatello made the Hornets 12-8 overall, and 5-1 in the Big Sky play. On Thursday, the Hornets ended their five game home stand with an impressive 3-0 win against Cal State Northridge (15-4, 15-6, 15-9).
The Hornets were aggressive, only allowing the Matadors a .123 hitting percentage, and never giving them the lead. Dwyer, who was named Big Sky Conference Player of the Week, and Wright each had 16 kills and freshman Lisa Beauchene had a match high of 19 digs and 45 assists.
In each game, the Hornets jumped out to early dominating leads, and cruised to victory. The Matadors only had three blocks and failed to come within less than five points of the Hornets.
The Hornets hope to keep their winning streak going this week when they travel to Montana. Tomorrow night they will face the Montana Grizzlies before matching up against Montana State on Friday.
