Ellie Appleby is a transfer student from Sacramento City College majoring in journalism, and this is her first semester on The State Hornet. Ellie has won several awards for her photography and has a degree in photography from the Academy of Art University. Ellie has also served as photo editor for Sacramento City College’s newspaper, called the Express. Ellie has been able to use her skills as both a staff writer and photographer from her two past internships at news publications, the Benicia Herold and Capitol Weekly, and has also freelanced for Solving Sacramento. She currently works as a freelance photographer for Capitol Weekly and looks forward to a full-time career as a journalist and photojournalist after graduating from Sacramento State University.

Veterans honored during Veterans Day celebration at the California Capitol

Veterans Day at the California State Capitol brought hundreds to celebrate and honor US veterans and Armed Forces during a ceremony and parade. Sacramento State Alumni Lindsey Sin, current Secretary of California Department of Veteran Affairs, spoke during the ceremony at the California State Capitol.
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art alumna Amari Moore works on her mural, carefully painting fine details on her sunflower on the south wall of the Ernest E.
