The lowdown on the shutdown

The Republican Party is solely responsible for the government shutdown, despite what the mainstream media will have you believe.

Just about every narrative on cable news concerning the GOP-led government shutdown is that both parties are to blame for this latest folly. However, the reason a budget was not sent to President Barack Obama’s desk to sign was because Republicans did not want Obamacare to be the law of the land.

Not to hurt anyone’s feelings, but the GOP lost in the last election. While Democrats may have lost the House of Representatives, and more Americans voted for Democrats, Republicans still won the House because of gerrymandering.

I suppose if you cannot win on trite ideals and archaic positions, you can still hold on to your power using dirty tricks. Republicans want to milk something out of this situation because they are afraid to death of what Obamacare will bring to the future of their party.

As if the shutdown has not been an absolute travesty, there are a few darlings that made this situation that much worse.

Rep. Lee Terry, R-Neb. proudly told a reporter from the World-Herald Bureau he would not give up his paycheck when he worked and earned it.

Like Sen. Ted Cruz quoting “Green Eggs and Ham” when protesting Obamacare, I don’t think Terry understands irony. He did not do his job, therefore he does not deserve a paycheck.

For once, the centrist Democratic Party, which is hardly left-wing by worldwide standards anymore, is not buckling. Obama has lost his rosy optimism and will not compromise over Obamacare.

The government shutdown has real victims, not the precious Republican party.

According to The Atlantic, The National Institutes of Health has furloughed three-quarters of the staff, which means 200 cancer patients, including 30 children, had to be turned away.

America would be better off with a parliamentary system, where the winning party governs. It will make the blame game much easier than it is now.

Consider what happened in 1975, when the Australian government enacted a government shutdown. Queen Elizabeth, through her governor general, Sir John Kerr, had all of Parliament fired. Sounds like a perfect plan on how to deal with the current crop of House Republicans and I Oughta Know.
