San Joaquin Delta College men’s basketball coach Brian Katz will be named the new head coach for Sacramento State’s men’s basketball team, according to the Sacramento Bee. The Bee cites an unnamed source with confirming the impending hire.

A source familiar with the situation told the Hornet that an announcement on the hiring of a new coach is expected tomorrow.

Katz did not immediately return a phone message; Sac State Athletic Director Terry Wanless could not be reached for comment.

A Sac State alumnus and Sacramento resident, Katz was one of three candidates interviewed last week to fill the spot that was left vacant after the contract of Jerome Jenkins was not renewed. University of Washington assistant coach Cameron Dollar and Cabrillo College head basketball coach Tony Marcopulos were the other two coaches who received interviews last week. Both Dollar and Marcopulos told the Bee they were informed today that they were no longer under consideration for the position.

Neither Dollar nor Marcopulos could immediately be reached for comment.

Katz has walked the sidelines for Delta College for the past 15 seasons and the Mustangs have only missed the playoffs once during his tenure. His overall record at the Stockton community college is 348-138.
