Basketball

The Men?s and Women?s basketball season kicked off with a “Late night at the nest,” on Friday. Both squads were introduced, performed lip sync routines, and scrimmaged in front of a packed crowd at Hornet Stadium. The night was capped off with a slam dunk contest where some of the men got to showcase their athletic ability.

“We were real pleased with the turnout,” said Women?s head coach Carolyn Jenkins. “The stands were packed and there was a nice standing room crowd.”

Football

Coming off of a tough road loss to Montana, the Sac State football team got back on track for the 2000 homecoming game against Montana State with a 24-13 win.

“We were able to come back and get the victory,” Head coach John Volek said. “I’m really proud of this football team and I hope the students at Sac State are too.”

The team now looks toward next week’s Causeway Classic match-up against UC Davis, which will be played at Sacramento City College on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Volleyball

The Sacramento State volleyball team lost for just the second time in its last eight matches as it fell at Montana State, 3-2 (12-15, 15-5, 13-15, 15-9, 15-11), in a Big Sky Conference match Friday evening at Shroyer Gym in Bozeman, Mont.

“We battled with them but things just didn?t come together,” said head coach Debby Colberg.

Men?s Soccer

After playing its last four games on the road, the Sac State men?s soccer team lost two home games over the weekend. The Hornets’ played Saint Mary’s on Friday afternoon, losing 1-0, and lost to Fresno State 2-0 on Sunday.

“We created a lot of chances offensively,” Linenberger said. “We had some very dangerous chances but could not finish.”

In its last three games, Sac State has not scored a goal, and Linenberger knows that it needs to capitalize on its chances on goal.

“We have to do more on goal and make the keeper make a save.” He said.
