Aryn Fields, director of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies, was sworn in as the new vice president of Finance after she was approved by Associated Students, Inc. on Feb. 17.

Tucker Caruso, vice president of Academic Affairs, said it was a unanimous decision to select Fields for the position.

“Before the interview, we identified five criteria that we thought was really important to have … and Aryn met all of those qualities,” said Executive Vice President Andrea Salas.

Fields will officially hold the title, but she will also retain her responsibilities as the director of SSIS.

ASI President Melisa Bardo said it would be too time consuming to open applications, recruit students for the position, and appoint someone new for the director of SSIS position.

“The leadership [in the finance committees] makes a difference… the knowledge and skills [Fields] has acquired will be transferred into the finance department,” said Pat Worley, ASI Executive Director.

Fields was one of two applicants interviewed for the vice president of Finance seat by a panel that included Bardo, Salas and Vice President of University Affairs Mark Anthony Sohl.

“Because the vice president of Finance is a little more complex and it requires more previous knowledge and internal knowledge, we thought it would be best to do a panel interview,” Bardo said.

The board is continuing its search for a new director of Engineering and Computer Science.

Bardo said she hopes to receive more applicants before they begin interviews for the position.
