The Sacramento State women’s soccer team was defeated 1-0 Sunday afternoon by the University of Montana.

The only goal came in the 43rd minute by redshirt sophomore forward Aspen Peifer.

The Hornets’ overall season record is 6-11 and 4-5 in the Big Sky. Montana’s record is 8-9-2 and 5-4-1 in the conference.

Sac State has one game left in the Big Sky Conference, and the team needs a win or a tie to continue onto the conference tournament. Northern Arizona University and Southern Utah University will play each other on Oct. 30. If Sac State wins their final game, a Northern Arizona loss or tie will result in the Hornets qualifying for the Big Sky Tournament. If the Hornets tie, they will need a Northern Arizona loss.

Sac State was outshot 12-5 on Sunday. During the second half, Montana took eight shots. Junior Jennifer Lum led the Hornets with two shots.

Junior forward Kassidy Kellogg and Lum each had one shot on goal for the Hornets.

Sac State’s junior goalkeeper Molly McConnell totaled three saves.

Montana had the advantage on corner kicks 3-2.

Sac State will play their last regular season conference game at Hornet Field at 3:30 p.m. on Friday against Portland State University.
