Sacramento State held an All Majors Career Fair in the University Union Ballroom on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

There were 115 organizations that had a booth in the ballroom. There were organizations for every major at Sac State.

The career fair is hosted by Sac State Career Center once a semester.

Michelle Okada, career counselor and coordinator in the Career Center, said they help students with resume building and finding job opportunities.

“We help students tailor their resume to make them more professional and we provide tips for interviewing among many other things,” Okada said.

At the career fair, students who brought their resume had the opportunity to have employers review and critique it.

Feather Adams is a freshman biology major at Sac State who volunteered at the career event.

Adams said volunteering at the career fair is “a great way to be an active member on campus.”

Adams discussed the career fair and how it can help students.

“It’s a great way to network,” Adams said. “I think you can get good exposure to work opportunities.”

Donovan Davis, a talent acquisition manager at Enterprise, has been coming to Sac State’s campus for career fairs for 11 years. He thinks it is a good opportunity for students to get to meet companies face to face and know more about them. Davis said that at least 20 percent of their hires are students they recruited from career fairs.

Davis provided interviewing tips for students and said, “Always make sure you’ve done your research about the company.”

Davis also said that LinkedIn is a great source for students that employers can look at.

The career fair also had a LinkedIn photo booth so that students had the opportunity to get a professional headshot taken for free.

Cameron Boyle, a recruiter for Young’s Market Company, said that the company looks for students that are hard driven with a strong work ethic.

“I’ve really liked the Sac State students I’ve recruited,” Boyle said.

The Career Center, located in Lassen Hall, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and has drop-in appointments available.
