Sacramento State men’s basketball coach Brian Katz was given a five-year contract extension that will keep him as head coach until at least 2020, the athletic department announced this afternoon.

“The man is a workaholic who is passionate about Hornet basketball,” said Sac State Director of Athletics Bill Macriss in a statement.

Katz has been the Hornets’ head coach since 2008. The team improved its record every year since then, with the 2014-15 season being the most successful. Sac State went 21-12 overall and 13-5 in the Big Sky Conference last season.

Sac State’s 2015-16 season begins Nov. 6 with a home exhibition game against Simpson University.
