Former Sacramento State first baseman Rhys Hoskins was promoted to the Florida State League’s Clearwater Threshers on Wednesday.

Hoskins, 22, was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the fifth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft after playing three seasons for Sac State.

Playing for the Class A Lakewood BlueClaws for the first half of the 2015 season, Hoskins batted .322 with nine home runs and 51 RBIs, earning his promotion to Class A Advanced.

In his final season at Sac State, the Western Athletic Conference recognized Hoskins with Player of the Year honors after the Sacramento native batted .319 and clobbered 12 home runs.

“Congratulations to Rhys Hoskins on being promoted to the Florida State League!” tweeted Reggie Christiansen, the Hornets’ head coach since 2011.
