Sacramento State Associated Students, Inc. is opening the Food Pantry, a new program, on campus for registered students starting in the fall 2015 Semester.

“The Food Pantry will open in fall 2015 and will be located in Yosemite Hall, room 163, and it is available to registered students at Sac State,” said Davin Brown, the director of Student Engagement and Outreach.

The pantry is designed to give students reliable and consistent access to food and basic necessities.

“The Food Pantry is a program, a service provided through Associated Students, to assist the Sac State student community with issues related to food insecurity,” Brown said. “Food insecurity are those instances when students may not have access to food during their time here as a student.”

The Food Pantry will be set up to provide some assortment of toiletries and food supplies to all registered students but will not have a consistent inventory.

“[Students] must be registered students at Sac State, they are allowed to visit one time per week. The food pantry hours, as it exists now, will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,” Brown said. “During that one-time visit, students may secure items up to 16 points. The items that are provided in the pantry are all categorized in a point system.”

In order to use the Food Pantry, students need to swipe their OneCard in order to show they are registered and to show that they have only used the Food Pantry once that week.
