Gymnastics places third in UCLA’s four-team meet

The Sacramento State gymnastics team competed in a four-team meet against No. 9 UCLA, No. 7 the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Bridgeport this Saturday afternoon and came in third with a final score of 194.150. They trailed behind UCLA’s 197.050 and Nebraska’s 196.650.

This meet was their highest score in the past four meets. In their last three meets they averaged a score of 193.20.

The team had their best performance on the uneven bars with the team score of 48.275. Junior Cassie Benning recorded the team high with 9.800.

After continuous slips on the beam, the Hornets received a final score of 48.250, led by junior Alyssa Anderson’s score of 9.750. Senior Kayla Wonderly scored a 9.625.

Sophomore Julia Konner performed in the all-around and received a score of 38.700. Her best event was vault with the score of 9.825. Senior Kayla McCartney and freshman Lauren Rice are still out with injuries.

The Hornets also did well on the vault with a total score of 48.675. Konner led with a team high of 9.825. Freshman Caitlin Soliwoda added to the team score with her score of 9.750.

The Hornets two best events of the evening were the uneven bars and beam, outscoring Bridgeport in both events, but still falling to Nebraska and UCLA.

Next up for gymnastics, the Hornets travel to UC Davis in a four-team meet, competing against UC Davis, Central Michigan University and the University of Iowa.
